Stories for Beginning Readers

Reading short stories is a great way to learn English!  The stories found below are simple versions of the longer stories found in the 500 Ironic Stories collection.  Click on the story title to read the story.  You will find questions to test reading comprehension and a link to the corresponding longer story.  

After new readers understand the simple version of a story, they can move on to the more complex longer version.  The simple versions are 400-600 words long.  The longer versions are about 2500 words long and contain more dialogue and complex language structure.
